I’ve started playing Flesh and Blood in September and I’m so happy I did!
The game is challenging and lets me experienced something new! Being a newbie at something is overwhelming at first but learning and putting your lesson in practice is very satisfying!
This past weekend I played my first ProTour of Flesh and Blood, I didn’t reach Day2 finishing 4-4, but the next day I overcame every expectation and in the 900 people Calling (which is the name that they use for GPs) I finished first in swiss and ended up taking the second place!
This all started last year, when Magic announced yet again their batch of ProTours and Grand Prixes which involved 13 events, 9 of which in the United States, 3 in Europe, 1 in Japan.
I grew up back when Magic was Play the Game, See the World, it was amazing, my life improved so much because I traveled a lot in my youth, now that I’m over 30 years old I want to experience something different than Play the Game, See the United States of America and as a TCG addict I chose to explore Flesh and Blood, a game developed by a New Zealand Company, that continuously hosts ProTours and Callings everywhere in the World! Thanks to Flesh and Blood I’ll visit Taiwan, Singapore, Japan and much more!
You’re allowed to ask me, but Mengu you can visit those places naturally, you don’t need to learn a whole new TCG, spend thousands of dollars in cards just to make an excuse to travel. You’ll be right, except I’ve played cards (Magic) my whole life, and just don’t know what one person does in their normal life / vacation if it isn’t tied to an event the immediate weekend. I get easily bored and need to continuously learn and challenge myself with new challenges.
The game isn’t at all like Magic, it’s like solving a puzzle every turn and if you want to look into it I suggest you to check out the ‘How to play FaB’ video I made on Mengu’s Workshop.
Limited is very fun and the fact that bomb rares are very small compared to Magic makes it much more enjoyable. Constructed is overwhelming. Cards are evergreen and only Heroes rotate. That means there’s 6 years of cards legal in their Constructed format which can be overwhelming. Thankfully Power Creep keep them in check, so you only need to learn the new ones since the old cards are likely worse, although some evergreen bombs will just be in every deck but are usually quite intuitive (and expensive).
Yes. I won’t lie to my readers. You can buy the Aurora Armory deck for just 40 dollars, and it will be very good, much better than any intro deck that Magic has ever had, but you’ll need hundreds of dollars if you want to build the competitive build that I use to come second at Calling London. Good thing is that the expensive cards don’t rotate, unlike Standard in Magic where your 30 dollars Gideon Ally of Zendikar worth nothing the day it rotates out of Standard here the expensive cards are evergreen and you can use them for a very long time, or maybe for ever.
Yes!!! Despite Competitive TCG tend to be usually a toxic environment compared to casual formats (and that’s why Commander does so much better than any other format), Flesh and Blood, that’s only a competitive game, has fewer players, so the community will try to be as welcoming as possible, player are always explaining in detail what their deck does, letting you take back the play and lending expensive cards that you may miss. This isn’t just my experience, I heard this from a ton of different players and it’s lovely.
Depending on how big your city is, there are Armory events weekly at the store, which award promos for every players and well as packs. Promos is definitely something Flesh and Blood does muuuuch better than Magic. Their promos you get for free just entering events are actually worth good money and you can sell them for profit, making side events during Calling very profitable, as well as winning local events much better than winning local Magic events.
Yes, cards are the same size as Magic so you can use your Katana or Cortex sleeves to sleeve Flesh and Blood decks as well!
But that’s also an opportunity to buy new deck boxes to hold all your new decks!
