Strixhaven Mystical Archive Explained: Full Card List and Collector Information
Magic: The Gathering is returning to Strixhaven with the release of Secrets of Strixhaven. This not only means that we are returning to the fan-favorite plane of Arcavios, but also that we get to enjoy a new iteration of one of the most popular bonus sheets of all time: the Mystical Archive is back!
Here you’ll find everything you need to know about the Mystical Archive, including the old and new cards featured in the sheet, how to obtain them, and more.
What is the Mystical Archive?
The Mystical Archive is a reprint collection of the most iconic instant and sorcery spells from throughout Magic's history which was first introduced in Strixhaven: School of Mages in 2021.
All Mystical Archive cards are available in multiple versions: one with the classic Mystical Archive showcase frame and one as a special Japanese Mystical Archive variant. The new Mystical Archive cards from Secrets of Strixhaven will also be released in a third treatment, as so-called silver scroll foils in the Japanese Mystical Archive style.
In Strixhaven: School of Mages, the set contained 63 different Mystical Archive cards in the respective treatments. For Secrets of Strixhaven, we are looking at 65 different cards.
Secret Lair Showcase: Strixhaven
For everyone who loves this style and doesn't want to miss a single card, we also got a Secret Lair with an art style that looks akin to the original Mystical Archives. It included All is Dust, Artifact Mutation, Drown in the Loch, Fire Covenant, Fractured Identity, and Fracturing Gust.
How to get Mystical Archive cards in Play Boosters and Collectors Boosters
Now, let's move onto the most important part - how does one actually obtain those glorious Mystical Archive cards?
According to Wizards of the Coast's official collector's guide, each Secrets of Strixhaven Play Booster contains at least one Mystical Archive card. However, these are limited to the classic showcase versions. The only exception is Japanese-language Play Boosters, which can also contain the highly sought-after special Japanese Mystical Archive variants.
If you're opening Collector Boosters, your chances increase significantly, as they contain a minimum of three Mystical Archive cards per pack. Both the classic and Japanese variants can appear in all languages. The rarest versions of the sheet, the silver scroll foil Japanese Mystical Archive cards, are exclusively found in Collector Boosters as well.
